bewerbungen[at]uni-kassel[dot]de

With the regular working hours of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited for 2 years within the project "Ni-Ti-Hf high temperature shape memory alloys produced via additive manufacturing using the selective electron beam melting process - From process to properties" (§ 2 Abs. 1) WissZeitVG). The possibility for doctoral studies is given.

Tasks:

The position holder is expected to work primarily on the production of high temperature shape memory alloys (HT-FGL) via the selective electron beam melting (EBM) process, an additive manufacturing process. The layer-by-layer production principle of the EBM process allows the fabrication of the most complex structures, which are ideally suited for e.g. compact actuators. HT-FGLs promise new possibilities with regard to the applicability of these actuators processed via additive manufacturing, as they open up new temperature ranges for corresponding structures. In the project, the behavior of these functional alloys processed via EBM under thermo-mechanical loads is to be explored in particular, and ultimately a profound understanding regarding all relevant interrelationships is to be developed via process-induced microstructure development.

Prerequisites:

The prerequisite is an above-average scientific university degree in mechanical engineering, materials science or similar, as well as good computer and English skills. Extensive knowledge in additive manufacturing, especially on EBM, as well as in the field of shape memory alloys is mandatory. This must include, in particular, operation of EBM equipment as well as experimental work in the area of Ni-Ti-(X) HT-FGL. Extensive knowledge of powder bedding processes as well as experience in the area specifically of HT-FGL is further expected. Knowledge of experimental and measurement techniques, heat treatment strategies, and microstructural and mechanical characterization of metallic materials is required.

Advantages include:

  • Thorough and independent work habits
  • A high degree of organizational ability
