Training contents

The job description of the farmer includes the following skills and knowledge:

• Working and caring for the soil; maintaining sustainable soil fertility; crop
• Crop production; managing crops in a rational and environmentally sound manner
• Harvesting and utilizing plant products
• Farm animal husbandry; care of animals; rational, animal-friendly and environmentally compatible husbandry
• Farming technology; maintenance and repair of machinery
• Environmental protection and landscape conservation; rational use of energy and materials
• Techniques and organization of farm work, production and marketing

Requirements

• at least a secondary school leaving certificate should be available at the time of the start of training
• unrestricted driving license class T

• openness for new things and for dealing with people
• readiness for action

Duration of training

The training lasts 2 to 3 years, depending on previous school education.

Training pay

A monthly training allowance is paid in accordance with Section 8 (1) of the Collective Agreement for Trainees of the State of Hesse (TVA-H BBiG).

Training location

The practical training takes place at the Hessian State Domain Frankenhausen in Grebenstein. It is the teaching and experimental farm for ecological agricultural sciences of the University of Kassel.

The vocational school is the Reichspräsident-Friedrich-Ebert-Schule in Fritzlar.
