Part-time with half of the regular working time of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited until March 31, 2023 to replace an employee on leave (§ 14 para. 1 sentence 2 no. 3 TzBfG).

 

Tasks:

  • Participate in biochemical research work in direct collaboration with scientific staff of the research group. This includes the independent performance of the following techniques in a genetic engineering laboratory of safety level 1:
    • Isolation of nucleic acids from microorganisms
    • Recombinant expression and purification of proteins from genetically modified microorganisms
    • Quality control of proteins
    • Biochemical characterization of proteins and biomolecules by chromatographic, electrophoretic and spectroscopic methods
    • Establishment, maintenance and preservation of tissue and cell cultures
    • Performance of binding studies using labeled substances
    • Evaluation of the results obtained
  • Detailed documentation of experiments performed and results obtained in a laboratory notebook.
  • Care and maintenance of laboratory infrastructure
  • Keeping records according to the Genetic Engineering Record Ordinance (GenTAufzV), e.g. bacteria and cell culture lists
  • Participation in internships for students of the department including support of the internship supervisors in instructing the students.
  • Orders via SAP

 

Requirements:

  • Completed training as a chemical-technical, biological-technical or medical-technical assistant* or equivalent qualification with focus on biological and biochemical working techniques.

 

Advantageous are:

  • Prior knowledge of the above techniques
  • Prior knowledge of the type and properties of chemicals and reagents and the relevant safety regulations as well as prior knowledge of handling genetically modified organisms and keeping documentation according to GenTAufzV
  • Experience with culture media or sound knowledge of working under sterile conditions is desirable
  • A high degree of organizational ability to independently and thoroughly perform and document the assigned tasks
  • Good PC skills and knowledge of word processing
  • Ability to accurately follow work instructions (also in English) from original scientific literature
  • Judgment and assertiveness, ability to work in a team
