"German Unity Cycle Route" - Exhibition opening at the Campus Center

The German Unity Cycle Route connects Bonn and Berlin and is a symbol of reunification and the merging of the German-German infrastructure. It makes it possible to experience our country's shared culture of remembrance up close at historical sites. The cycle route mainly runs along the existing long-distance cycle route network and not only crosses seven federal states, but also the city of Kassel.

November 9, 2019 marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and October 3, 2020 marked the 30th anniversary of German reunification. How far has Germany grown together in these 30 years? Photographer Mina Esfandiari wanted to find out and cycled along the official German Unity Cycle Route from West to East (from Bonn to Berlin) under her own steam in the summer of 2019, collecting personal stories, moods and portraits in her photo essay. The photographer has curated her impressions and encounters along the cycle path in an exhibition that can be seen from October 21 to November 21, 2022 at the Campus Center of the University of Kassel, Moritzstraße 18.

"As a cycling professor, I am delighted that we were able to bring this exhibition to Kassel. The German Unity Cycle Route runs just a few hundred meters from the University of Kassel and fits in well thematically with our courses in the field of cycling. In addition, this is another very special moment for me as an East German," says Angela Francke, Professor of Cycling and Local Mobility at the University of Kassel.

The exhibition will be opened by Prof. Angela Francke and Mina Esfandiari on October 25, 2022, at 5 p.m. in the Campus Center of the University of Kassel.

Visiting the exhibition is free of charge throughout the entire period.
