Reading & Talk: Jasmin Lörchner reads from "Not Only Heroines

Jasmin Lörchner, freelance journalist and known to a large audience through her "HerStory" podcast, is coming to Kassel at the invitation of the Archive of the German Women's Movement and the University Library for a reading from her book "Not Only Heroines".

Since 2020, Jasmin Lörchner has been talking in her podcast "HerStory" about strong women* and queer people in history from a wide variety of backgrounds, from suspenders:in to scientists:in, from antiquity to today, from all parts of the world. It is important to her to show all facets of a life - not only the positive ones. This is where her first book "Not Only Heroines" comes in. In five chapters with different focuses - powerful, creative, doers, pioneers, fighters - Jasmin Lörchner tells of a total of 20 women who have achieved groundbreaking things - but have sometimes behaved anything but heroic: "With "Not only heroines" I follow the same approach as in my podcast [...]: Not to tell women's history and queer history through rose-colored glasses, but also to give space to the protagonist:s weaknesses or mistakes, so that we can understand them and their actions better. As I write in the preface: Not only heroines write history."

At the April 26 reading, Jasmin Lörchner will introduce several women from her debut book. In conversation with Christina Soose from the Archive of the German Women's Movement, she will talk about backgrounds to and fascinations with these women - but many other women's movement topics will also be addressed. Of course, there will also be time for audience questions about "Not Only Heroines," the "HerStory" podcast, and book signings.
