Part-time with 65 % of the regular working hours of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited for 3 years as part of the DFG research project "Localization and quantification of physical and mechanical properties of the rhizosphere using X-ray microtomography and microsensor technology" (§ 2 para. 2 WissZeitVG). The possibility of a doctorate is given.

Tasks

  • Scientific collaboration in the above-mentioned project. The project is part of a coordinated priority program on the rhizosphere "Rhizosphere Spatiotemporal Organization (SPP2089)".
  • The main task is to use non-invasive methods (X-ray µCT) and quantitative image analysis to investigate the soil microstructure and patterns in soil physical/mechanical properties in interaction with root growth.
  • Non-invasive investigations are complemented by physical measurements with microprobes (e.g. to determine the local oxygen distribution) and the mechanical stability of the rhizosphere soil. 
  • Publication of results in peer-reviewed scientific journals and their presentation at national/international conferences.

 

Prerequisites:

  • University degree in agricultural sciences, soil science, geoecology, physics or similar subjects, completed with at least good grades.

 

Advantageous are:

  • Good understanding of statistical data analysis and basic knowledge of application programs (e.g. R)
  • Experience in dealing with soil physical analysis methods
  • Experience with quantitative image processing and analysis
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • Thorough and independent working methods
  • a high degree of organizational skills and willingness to work in a team
