The position is initially limited until 28.02.2021 (§ 2 para. 1 WissZeitVG); the possibility of a doctorate is given.
The Department of Energy Management and Operation of Electrical Grids (e²n) conducts research on the technically and economically optimized design, control and operational management of the future, decentralized energy supply system (smart grid) with a high proportion of renewable energies as an important challenge of the energy transition to ensure a secure, cost-efficient and sustainable energy supply. In this exciting, extensive field, the e²n department is closely linked to the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology IEE in Kassel through personnel links and numerous joint projects.
We are looking for reinforcement for our research team in the following research areas:
- Modeling and control of current and voltage inverters and battery storage systems.
- Dynamic time domain simulations (EMT and RMS) for stability analysis across voltage levels.
- Development of a Python/DIgSILENT PowerFactory framework for the semi-automated execution of stability analyses.
- Technical and economic evaluation of various control approaches.
Your tasks:
We are looking for reinforcement for our research team for the modeling, control, simulation and analysis of voltage-inducing methods for inverters and battery storage systems. You will carry out dynamic stability studies taking into account future generation structures and analyze the challenges and opportunities arising from the further expansion of inverter-coupled generation. The focus is on the theoretical investigation of voltage and current-influencing control methods using dynamic simulation models. The influence of these methods on system stability will be investigated, with a particular focus on frequency and long-term voltage stability as well as interactions between different stability criteria.
Requirements:
- University degree with good to very good grades in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, (applied) mathematics or similar disciplines.
- Independent and goal-oriented way of working and enjoyment of scientific work.
- Experience in modeling, control, simulation and stability analysis (EMT and RMS) of electrical networks.
- You have a very good mathematical and theoretical understanding of complex systems.
- Good to very good knowledge of the DIgSILENT PowerFactory simulation environment and the Python programming language is required.
- You have a structured and communicative way of working that enables you to work in a team.
- You are curious about the challenges of grid integration of renewable energies.
- We require good to very good written and spoken German and English skills.
