State competition "Schüler experimentieren" in presence

After the cancellation of the competition in 2020 and a purely virtual competition in 2021, the third Hessian state competition "Schüler experimentieren" will again take place on site at the Department of Electrical Engineering/Computer Science at the University of Kassel: on April 1 and 2, 2022 with 39 young researchers in 28 teams.

"Finally live again, finally with the possibility of discussion with and between the researching students," comments Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Bangert, Dean of the organizing Department of Electrical Engineering/Computer Science at the University of Kassel,  relieved and pleased about this year's Hessian state competition "Schüler experimentieren". The state competition director, Ms. Eva Kretzer, added: "This was something that both the children and young people and we really missed, especially because you can always learn something in such discussions and get ideas for improvements or new ideas. It's a pity that we can't yet allow the public, most of whom are very interested, but we are very optimistic that this will be possible again next year."

The Hessian state competition "Schüler experimentieren", which is generously supported by the sponsoring organization cdw Stiftung gGmbH and the sponsoring company Hübner GmbH & Co. KG, is the "little sister" of the "Jugend forscht" competition. Interested children from the fourth grade up to the age of 14 were initially called upon to submit their ideas and projects from one of the seven subject areas of the world of work, biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology and to present them in one of the seven regional competitions in Hesse. The first-place winners of the regional competitions received an invitation to Kassel for the state competition. The 28 invited teams, consisting of a total of 39 young researchers, will present their research projects on April 1 and 2, 2022, at the University of Kassel's Wilhelmshöher Allee site, also to find out who gets to take home which of the prestigious prizes and to see what the other researchers have found out. And, above all, to find out how they did it.

Highly exciting topics are included. They range from "Learning slime" and "Edible glue" to "Jumping fluids" and "Masked music making" to "Iterative computation of a chaotic multibody problem of the GW Orionis system." Very practical questions such as "Which plants help against mosquitoes?" or "How far do hangovers run in a day?" will also be highlighted.

The submitted written works as well as the presentations of the participants will be evaluated by the jurors of the respective discipline. The honorary jury members are proven experts in their disciplines and come from the fields of school, industry and science.

The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The event will be moderated by Dr. Sascha Ott.

Public is not allowed due to the pandemic situation. However, media representatives are welcome to attend.
