"German Unity Cycle Route" - Exhibition Opening at the Campus Center

The German Unity Cycle Route connects Bonn and Berlin and is a symbol of reunification and the growing together of the German-German infrastructure. It brings our country's shared culture of remembrance to life at historic sites. The cycle path runs predominantly on the existing long-distance cycle route network and crosses not only seven federal states, but also the city of Kassel.

November 9, 2019, marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and October 3, 2020, the 30th anniversary of German unity. How far has Germany grown together in these 30 years? Photographer Mina Esfandiari wanted to know and in the summer of 2019 cycled with her own muscle power along the official German Unity Cycle Route from West to East (from Bonn to Berlin) and collected personal stories, moods and portraits in her photo essay. The photographer has curated her impressions and encounters along the bike path in an exhibition that will be on display from Oct. 21 to Nov. 21, 2022, at the University of Kassel's Campus Center, Moritzstrasse 18.

"As a professor of cycling, I am very pleased that we were able to bring this exhibition to Kassel. The German Unity Cycle Route runs only a few hundred meters from the University of Kassel and fits thematically well with our study programs in the field of cycling. In addition, as an East German, this is once again a very special moment for me," says Angela Francke, Professor of Cycling and Local Mobility at the University of Kassel.

The exhibition will be opened on October 25, 2022, at 5 p.m., by Prof. Angela Francke and Mina Esfandiari at the Campus Center of the University of Kassel.

The visit of the exhibition is free of charge throughout the entire period.
