Baunatal: Workshops on housing development

Baunatal will continue to need new living space in the future, but where and how much? This has been the subject of discussion in the town on the outskirts of Kassel for many months. For this reason, a study was commissioned by the town of Baunatal under the direction of Prof. Dr. Uwe Altrock from the University of Kassel to investigate the possibilities and strategic approaches for housing development. The results will be presented on March 6 in the Baunatal town hall. Workshops will then be held with the people of Baunatal from March to October 2025 as part of the SDG+ Lab project to shape the future of housing in Baunatal.

The future residential development of Baunatal is the topic of the information event on March 6

In recent years, many apartments have been built on vacant lots as part of a land-saving urban development strategy. It is now increasingly difficult to find suitable plots for housing construction in existing districts. Building new districts on the outskirts means interfering with nature and the landscape. This is just one example of the different perspectives on housing development in Baunatal. A total of six workshops therefore offer a space for discussion and joint work and bring together politicians and administration, companies, property owners and residents. The wishes and needs of local people are included in the exchange, the advantages and disadvantages of various concepts are discussed and recommendations for urban development are derived. The workshops take place in the Baunatal town hall. Interested parties are cordially invited to help shape the future of housing in Baunatal.

Background:
With the SDG+ Lab, UniKasselTransfer is developing a laboratory for sustainability issues as a platform for exchange between science, politics, business and civil society. Along the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations, practical solutions and innovations for the North Hesse region will be jointly developed. The 2024/25 theme year "Transformations in urban and rural areas" deals with the questions of how areas, spaces and uses in the urban region can be made more sustainable. The SDG+ Lab project is funded by the federal-state initiative "Innovative University" from 2023-2027.
