bewerbungen[at]uni-kassel[dot]de

The position is initially limited until 31.12.2021 within the framework of the project "Prognosis of the boundary layer condition for the robust control of a turning process using in-process measurement technology and data-driven soft sensor technology" (§ 2 para. 2 WissZeitVG). The possibility for a doctorate is given.

Tasks:

Your task is to research, develop and characterize methods for data-driven modeling for machining production processes using hard turning as an example. In this context, selected boundary layer properties of a machined component are to be traced back to the turning parameters (process manipulated variables) as well as existing disturbance variables and initial boundary layer properties in order to enable robust model-based feedforward and control of component properties. The method development shall be oriented towards the knowledge areas of system identification, machine learning, computational intelligence and related areas. The problem is part of an interdisciplinary research project in which the Institute of Materials Engineering at the University of Kassel is also involved. The methods are to be tested and demonstrated with data from the research partner. In addition, you will support the department in courses and internships as well as in scientific and organizational tasks.

You will have the opportunity to gain early experience in leading a small research group by supervising bachelor and master theses as well as student assistants. We will support you in achieving your scientific and technical goals.

Requirements:

  • academic university degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering or a comparable course of study with at least good grades
  • good knowledge and interest in the field of empirical modeling methods
  • experience in the modeling of cause-effect relationships in machining production
  • fluent written and spoken German and good English skills
  • programming experience in Matlab, R, Python
  • Experience in the areas of system identification and machine learning is an advantage
