Whether it's the family, youth, the economy, the world of work, life in the city or the countryside, our communication behavior or attitudes toward religious issues - nothing stays the same. Sociology deals with the causes of social change and analyzes social trends.
Anyone who is interested in the developmental dynamics of societies and curious about how people live together has good prerequisites for studying sociology. Prospective sociologists should be prepared to engage in abstract thinking and not be irritated by the complexity of society, but see it as a challenge.
The Bachelor's program in Sociology at the University of Kassel provides theoretical and methodological tools for reflecting on and researching the social. In contrast to other subjects, students are not trained for a (single) specific profession; instead, the courses impart a profile of competencies that qualifies students for work in various areas of society. Whereas at many universities the course of study is highly over-schooled, the University of Kassel offers freedom for self-study, options for setting one's own priorities in terms of content and concentration on a small number of examinations. The six-semester Bachelor's program is divided into three study phases and includes a minor subject, an internship, a (voluntary) stay abroad, and the acquisition of integrative and additive key competencies.
