Statement on the events in Iran (as of 10/2022)

The University of Kassel views with concern the spiral of violence in Iran and in particular the violent intrusion of security forces into Sharif University in Tehran. We stand in solidarity with the faculty and students who are protesting for their freedom, human rights and dignity in the universities. Under the pressure of the regime, they continue to stand up for the autonomy of teaching and research. Our deepest sympathy goes to those people who were injured or severely traumatized during the protests in Iran, as well as to the families of those who died. The University of Kassel demands an end to the violence and the continued violation of human rights. We join Amnesty International, among others, in calling for an independent and international investigation to identify and hold accountable those responsible for human rights violations.(www.amnesty.de)
