Lecture "Ladies in the bed. From passion to profession."

How did women gain access to professions that, according to 19th century social ideas, should have been reserved for men? What role did the women's movement play in the professionalization of professions? What arguments were used to reinforce the idea that women were indispensable and necessary for these professions? What opposing voices and reactions did they encounter? Using the example of the gardening profession, Mette Bartels illustrates the historical roots of current debates about female employment, emancipation and equality.
