Foundation for Innovation in University Teaching supports eight Hessian universities

The Innovation in University Teaching Foundation announced on Tuesday which universities will receive funding totaling up to 330 million euros from the federal and state governments over the next three years. 264 applications had been submitted nationwide.
 
"Our universities are well positioned for digital teaching, as they have proven in recent months: They have made studying under corona conditions possible with a great deal of innovative spirit and commitment," explains Science Minister Angela Dorn. "However, digitization in university teaching means more than a stopgap solution in pandemic times. Digital teaching formats make it possible to better respond to the needs of students with different educational biographies, life situations and challenges. In Hesse, we are providing our universities with an additional 112 million euros for digital innovations through 2024 with the Digital Pact, which is unique in Germany. With this tailwind from Hesse, our universities have now also been successful in the nationwide competition. The funds raised will additionally help them to put innovative concepts into a permanent structure."

Hessen's universities had submitted a total of eleven individual and three collaborative applications with a total application sum of 48.5 million euros to the foundation. The funding of nine applications will enable the successful universities to implement their respective projects from August 2021. A total of 26.1 million euros will be available for three years.
