Sustainable development project awarded

Combining education in biodiversity and politics - that is the idea behind the "Political Plant" project. For this, it has received the "Sustainability Project" award from the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE) and the four Regional Network Units for Sustainability Strategies (RENN).

With the full title "'Political Plant', Plants, Knowledge, Commitment - Development, Testing and Dissemination of Innovative Educational Formats at Conservation Academies and Botanical Gardens", the project prevailed as one of 40 against around 350 competitors. Each of these will now receive funding of 1,000 euros. The award honors projects that show outstanding and effective commitment to sustainable development. For the first time, four entries were also honored in the special photo category. The award ceremony will take place on 04.11.2021 in the RENN.west ARENA in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The aim of the project "Die poltische Pflanze" is to communicate the impact of wild and useful plants on different areas of human life. The close linkage of nature conservation, (agricultural) biodiversity, economy, politics and social interaction are in focus. Since 2019, management and coordination have been taken over by the Didactics of Political Education and the Greenhouse for Tropical Crops of the University of Kassel. Strategic partners are the Verband Botanischer Gärten e.V. (Association of Botanical Gardens) and the Bundesweite Arbeitskreis der staatlich tragenen Bildungsstätten im Natur- und Umweltschutz (BANU) (National Working Group of State-supported Educational Institutes for Nature Conservation and Environmental Protection).
