Supply bottlenecks: Moritzstrasse conversion delayed

The reconstruction of Moritzstrasse, which began in June 2021, is part of the campus redesign with the aim of creating a uniformly harmonious appearance of the open spaces at the Holländischer Platz campus. A key design element is the granite slab paving laid in strips on squares and paths, the materiality of which clearly underlines the high quality of the facility and visually and functionally links the northern and southern campuses.

At present, the skyrocketing freight costs for the paving to be used are causing delays in further planning. Other trades are also currently suffering badly from the ongoing supply bottlenecks in the construction industry. Although it would be possible to switch to a different pavement, an increase in costs would also be unavoidable in this case. In addition, the desired uniformity of the outdoor facilities could no longer be achieved.

Nevertheless, the Landesbetrieb Bau und Immobilien Hessen (LBIH), which has commissioned and is carrying out the project, is endeavoring to clarify the delivery options and deadlines, which are currently open, as quickly as possible. A delay in the construction process of several months is expected. A solution to the problem is being intensively discussed.
