Repair your bike with ease: New repair station at the University of Kassel

Low air in the tire, screw on the luggage rack or handlebars loose? No problem, because there is now a bicycle repair station on the Holländischer Platz campus where small repairs and maintenance work can be carried out independently.

Karen Marschinke, an employee in the Green Office at the University of Kassel, tries out the new bicycle repair station.

The bike repair station contains a set of tools suitable for most repairs and troubleshooting as well as a hand pump with an adapter for all valve types. The bike can also be conveniently attached to a bracket.

The idea for the new bicycle repair station came about as part of the project "Sustainable transport at the University of Kassel - concept and measures for sustainable mobility and logistics". The project is being carried out by the Green Office in cooperation with the Department of Transport Planning and Transport Systems headed by Prof. Dr. Sommer. "In order to meet the requirements and wishes of students and employees regarding mobility on campus, several secure and covered bicycle parking facilities are to be created and bicycle repair stations set up," explains Nadine Chrubasik, Sustainability Manager at the Green Office.

The first bicycle repair station for the campus at Holländischer Platz is now located in front of the Campus Center. In Witzenhausen, there is another repair station at the entrance to the Nordbahnhofstraße site. A bicycle box will also be set up in the university's underground parking garage on July 14 and will be accessible via the Campus Card.

Further bicycle parking and storage facilities are to follow soon. In addition, the construction of a solar bike house is planned as a flagship project that will provide energy generated by solar modules directly on site for charging e-bikes, cell phones and laptops, while also providing shade thanks to the roofing. In this way, sustainable energy generation is combined with passive shading, and parking spaces for bikes and charging stations are complemented by places to stay.
