More money for non-European exchanges at the University of Kassel

When you hear "Erasmus", the first thing that comes to mind is stays abroad for students or university staff in other EU countries. What many people don't know: Erasmus+ provides additional funding for exchanges with partner universities outside of Europe.

German universities can apply for this funding every year. This year, the University of Kassel was able to raise 1,059,000 euros, making it one of four universities to receive over one million euros. A total of 31.5 million euros was available, which was divided among almost 130 German universities.

The university intends to use the funds to finance stays by university staff and doctoral students at partner universities as well as stays by international guests in Kassel. Students can also use the funds for a stay abroad. The focus of the student mobility program is on giving foreign students from the Global South the opportunity to come to Kassel for a stay.

The University of Kassel currently maintains 105 non-European university partnerships in 45 countries. 43 of these partnerships will be supported with the money now raised. Among them are long-standing intensive collaborations with universities in several African and South American countries, which play an important role for both the research focus in the field of sustainability and the Center for Latin American Research at the University of Kassel.

Further cooperation partners can be found in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cuba, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, India, Lebanon, Morocco, Pakistan, Tunisia and the Ukraine. There are also long-standing teaching and research contacts in various departments with the partner universities there, which are now to be further expanded with the Erasmus+ funding.
