The university is building: Two extensions by mid-2025

The historic Gießhaus, which is used by the university for Presidential Board events, conferences and presentations, will have an extension of around 80 square meters with large windows, which will be used as a light-filled study and reception room. On the one hand, it will provide students with a quiet learning atmosphere, while on the other, loose furnishings will ensure multifunctionality so that the extension can also be used as a reception room for events in the Gießhaus. The single-storey structure adjoins the existing building on two sides, keeping a respectful distance from the listed Gießhaus. The client is the University of Kassel. The planned construction budget is 450,000 euros and will be financed from the university's own funds. The extension is due to open at the turn of 2024/25.

After the Natural Sciences III building was extended on the south side between 2014 and 2016, it will now also be extended by an additional storey in the northern area. New office and seminar rooms as well as laboratory space for Faculties 14 and 15 (Civil and Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering) will be created on an area of 900 square meters. The measure is being carried out within the framework of building autonomy, which means that the client is not the Landesbetrieb Bau und Immobilien Hessen (LBIH), but rather the Department of Construction and Facilities Management at the University of Kassel. The construction budget amounts to 6.5 million euros. The extended building space is scheduled to be put into operation in the second half of 2025.
