Science as an after-work snack: lecture series at UNI:Lokal

In so-called "coffee talks", researchers from the University of Kassel present their topics to interested members of the public - free of charge, of course. The compact, short presentations of around 15 minutes are aimed at anyone who wants to start the evening with an interesting input on current topics. Sweet snacks and hot drinks are also available free of charge. The coffee talks take place centrally in the city center at UNI:Lokal (Wilhelmsstraße 21), every Wednesday at 4 pm from November 6.

The lecture by Guido Fuchs deals with the end of the universe. Here is an image of the Andromeda nebula.

The coffee talks start with a short lecture by philosopher Dr. Martin Böhnert on the topic "With great knowledge comes great responsibility?", in which he addresses the question of whether knowledge also comes with a special moral obligation. Biologist Prof. Dr. Monika Stengl will continue the series on 20.11. and explain how our inner clock controls us. In his coffee talk on 27 November, Prof. Dr. Björn Frank will provide a provocative insight into the economic debate on national debt. Other events in the series deal with physical phenomena relating to cold and heat, the ultimate fate of our universe and the absorption of nutrients by plants.

In the UNI:Lokal in the city center, the University of Kassel presents research from the university to a wide audience according to the motto "Science for everyone" in order to promote the exchange between science and the public. In the open space for events and exhibitions, visitors are invited to enter into a dialog with researchers about current scientific topics and to discuss aspects.

The coffee talks also address socially relevant topics that are the subject of research at the University of Kassel and communicate them in a way that is relevant to everyday life. The short presentations show the broad spectrum of research and teaching at the university, which aims to develop solutions for a future worth living. With the coffee talks, the University of Kassel is building on similar formats that have been successful at the university.
