Green steel: "A crucial time" for the industry

There is no alternative to transforming the steel industry into green steel, and it has to happen now. So says Prof. Dr. Stefan Lechtenböhmer, an expert in industrial transformation at the University of Kassel.

He is also responding to attempts in the current election campaign to question the transformation plans for the steel industry. The conversion of the steel industry to hydrogen-based production is actually a done deal - billions in subsidies have been promised and approved by the EU. In our podcast, Lechtenböhmer calls proposals to stick with conventional steel production and supplement it with CCS "election campaign bluster".

Prof. Dr. Stefan Lechtenböhmer is head of the Sustainable Technology Design department at the University of Kassel and thus holds one of the core professorships at the Kassel Institute for Sustainability. He previously held a senior position at the Wuppertal Institute.
