Research Associate (EG 13 TV-H) - Department of Theory of Electrical Engineering and Photonics

Part-time with 75.00 percent of the regular working time of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited for 1.5 years with the possibility of extension for another 2 years (qualification position according to § 65 HHG in connection with § 2 Abs. 1 Satz 1 WissZeitVG). The possibility for doctoral studies is given.

Tasks:

• In the context of interdisciplinary projects, we investigate novel terahertz (THz) sensors. The goal is to measure molecular protein properties with highest sensitivity in an interdisciplinary team with competences from semiconductor technology, biophysics as well as electromagnetics.
• The scope of the advertised position includes the formulation and implementation of a simulation model that describes material properties in the THz range, as well as numerically calculating the electromagnetic properties of a sensor consisting of antennas, lenses, waveguides, etc. The models will then be used to perform calculations. The models will then be used to perform calculations in order to develop novel sensors and understand their functionality in close collaboration with experimental partners.
• The opportunity for independent work, management of a research project, scientific publication activities, international conference visits is given. Our project partners from industry and academia enable research on state-of-the-art technologies and devices as well as the formation of diverse contacts.

Requirements:

• Completed university degree (Master in Phys., ET, or Mathematics).
• Knowledge of electromagnetic theory, semiconductor physics, numerical methods and programming.
