Full-time, initially limited until 30.06.2019 (§ 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG), for collaboration in the joint project "CoAct - Integrated urban-rural concept for the production of activated carbon and energy sources from residual biomass". An extension until 30.06.2023 is being sought.

 

CoAct is a BMBF-funded joint project with an interdisciplinary focus that deals with various dimensions of activated carbon production from regional residual biomass. The project focuses on the survey and evaluation of biomass potentials in a model region, the analysis of existing utilization concepts, the investigation of quantity and quality of produced activated carbons as well as the analysis and evaluation of ecological, economic and social effects of innovative biomass utilization.

The main place of work is Witzenhausen, regular stays of several days in the project region or with project partners are necessary.

 

Your tasks:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Project coordination including financial planning, monitoring, reporting and communication with the project sponsor
  • Implementation of the central integration meetings as well as other regular and event-related cooperation formats
  • External representation of the project and responsibility for public relations work
  • Quantitative and qualitative characterization of the starting products from specific biomass spectra for use as energy sources or as a raw material for activated carbon
  • Material and energy analysis of different process chains of integrated fuel and activated carbon production (incl. pre-treatment, combustion, carbonization, activation) including residue management
  • Determination and evaluation of the purification performance of the resulting activated carbons for the purification of wastewater using suitable methods on a laboratory and practical scale
  • Preparation of scientific publications in international journals
  • Evaluation of various innovative value creation scenarios and development of recommendations for implementation options
  • Integration of the project content into existing and planned courses
  • Transfer of the project results to other regions, especially in countries of the Global South

 

Your requirements:

  • Above-average academic degree in the field of agricultural or environmental sciences
  • Experience in the coordination of interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary research projects
  • Extensive experience with experimental field research and multivariate statistical methods
  • Knowledge of the use of and modeling with GIS
  • excellent knowledge of combustion, pyrolysis and biogas production
  • Extensive experience with the production and utilization of activated carbon
  • very good English language skills, knowledge of French is an advantage
  • Experience in publishing scientific articles in international journals
  • Experience in international collaborative projects and experience abroad, preferably in countries of the Global South
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in Germany and abroad
