Training content

At the University of Kassel, training as an IT specialist specializing in application development is strongly focused on the area of web development. The IT specialist develops plug-ins for Typo3, Moodle, Mahara or writes necessary patches. Furthermore, IT specialists also develop their own applications here, such as the UniVideo portal. The focus of the training is on HTML, CSS, SQL, JavaScript and PHP. The area of web development also includes the administration of the required infrastructure. Various tools, such as Bash, Ruby, and Python are used. The training is rounded off by the handling of software development tools for quality assurance, creation of (user) documentation and independent execution of smaller project work.

Requirements

• At the time of the start of the training, you should have a secondary school leaving certificate (Realschulabschluss).
• Grades in mathematics and English at least "satisfactory" or better

Advantageous are:

• Interest in data processing, especially in programming
• Ability to think logically and in a structured manner
• Sense of responsibility

Training duration and structure

The training lasts 3 years.

An intermediate examination is held halfway through the training period.

Training pay

A monthly training allowance is paid in accordance with Section 8 (1) of the Collective Agreement for Apprentices of the State of Hesse (TVA-H BBiG).

Training location

Practical training takes place at the IT Service Center (Holländischer Platz location) of the University of Kassel.

The vocational school is the Oskar-von-Miller-Schule in Kassel.
