Part-time position with 65 % of the working hours of a full-time employee. This is a fixed term-position for three years (§ 2 Abs. 2 WissZeitVG) in the DFG-Project "Localization and quantification of physical and mechanical rhizosphere properties using X-ray microtomography and micro-sensing techniques". The opportunity for a PhD is given. Working place is Witzenhausen.
Tasks:
- Services in research in above mentioned project. The project is part of a newly established DFG-Priority Programme (PP 2089) on Rhizosphere Spatiotemporal Organization.
- Key aspects will be the application of X-ray μCT and quantitative image analysis tools to study patterns of soil physical/mechanical properties of the Rhizosphere and their interaction with root growth.
- Non-invasive measurements will be complemented by lab measurements using microsensing techniques (eg. in situ oxygen concentrations) and mechanical soil testing.
- Reporting of research results in peer-reviewed publications and at national/international conferences.
Requirements:
- Completed course of academic study (Master degree) within the field of agricultural sciences, soil science, geoecology, physics or related fields.
Of advantage is:
- Good knowledge in statistical data analysis including the application of corresponding software tools (e.g. R)
- Experience in soil physical methods
- Skills in quantitative image processing and analysis
- Strong communication and excellent command of English, preferably also of German
- Ability to work independently and self-organized
- Motivated to work in an interdisciplinary team
