Lecture series: "Digital society - a design task"
The Scientific Center for Information Technology Design (ITeG) at the University of Kassel, in cooperation with the Gesellschaft für Informatik, is once again organizing the interdisciplinary public lecture series "Digital Society - A Design Task" with renowned scientists from various disciplines in the winter semester 2018/2019.
The ITeG has set itself the task of scientifically analyzing digitization in the area of tension between opportunity and risk and developing viable design proposals. Against this backdrop, the new lecture series will ask how the digital transformation is influencing and reorganizing our lives, the economy and society, as well as what challenges and design options it is opening up.
The opening lecture on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, 5 p.m. will be given by Professor Dr. Günter Maier from Bielefeld University: "Digitalized Work: Psychological Consequences and Design Recommendations." Professor Maier heads the Work and Social Psychology Unit in the Department of Psychology at Bielefeld University.
Abstract of the lecture:
For some years now, especially in Germany, there has been an increasingly intensive discussion of various technological changes in industry, which is associated with the term Industry 4.0. This designation is a widespread metaphor with which heterogeneous technological developments for industry are associated. After the initial preoccupation with technological development, the debate on the possible consequences for work processes and employees has now also begun. This debate is mostly based on the sociotechnical systems approach. This presentation will focus in particular on three topics of digitization of work from ongoing projects that deal with short- and longer-term consequences of digitization. Specifically, it will address issues and results related to the acceptance of digital technology, issues related to work design with digital technology, and issues related to how digital technology may change competencies. Finally, possible opportunities and risks of digital technology will be discussed.
Location: conference room ITeG, Pfannkuchstraße 1, 34121 Kassel
Time: usually Wednesdays 5 to 6:30 pm. Exception: Tuesday, November 20, 2018, beginning at 6 p.m.
