Part-time with half the regular working hours of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited until 30.06.2021 as part of the project "Insertion and folding of beta-barrel membrane proteins in lipid bilayers - functions of BamA (YaeT) and membrane-anchored BAM proteins on the folding of integral membrane proteins" (§ 2 Abs. 2 WissZeitVG). The possibility of a doctorate is given.

Tasks:

Research on the incorporation of proteins into membranes and on protein-protein interactions on model membranes; methods and principles of folding and incorporation of membrane proteins, spectroscopy, protein expression and purification, site-directed mutagenesis, membrane proteins; biomimetic membranes.

The methodological focus of the Biophysics Department is on

  • Studies on the incorporation and folding of membrane proteins in model membranes
  • Preparation of mutants of membrane proteins from bacteria or eukaryotic cell organelles, protein expression and isolation from cells using chromatographic methods
  • Production of lipid model membranes and proteoliposomes
  • Investigation of protein-protein and protein-lipid interactions
  • Investigation of membrane properties and functions
  • Spectroscopy (fluorescence, ESR (EPR), CD spectroscopy)
  • Structure/functional relationships of proteins
  • Kinetics and thermodynamics of biomolecular structural changes and interactions

Modern laboratories and software equipment for carrying out experimental work and analyzing the results are available for all areas.
