Research assistant (m/f/d), EG 13 TV-H - in the field of metallic materials

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Materials Engineering - Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Niendorf - temporary, full-time (currently 40 hours per week)

Application deadline:

26.09.2019

Start of recruitment:

as soon as possible

Reference number:

32609

Applications to:

bewerbungen[at]uni-kassel[dot]de

With the regular working hours of a full-time employee.  The position is initially limited to 1 year as part of the project "Processing of steels via EBM" (§ 2 para. 1 WissZeitVG). The possibility of a doctorate is given.

Tasks:

The post holder will be primarily concerned with the production of tool steels using the selective electron beam melting (EBM) process, an additive manufacturing process. The layer-by-layer production principle of the EBM process allows the production of the most complex structures, which are ideally suited for e.g. complex tool geometries. However, the mechanical-technological properties of such materials cannot yet be evaluated in many areas of application, as there are no reliable statements in the literature. In cooperation with a project partner, the behavior of novel alloys processed via EBM under thermo-mechanical loads is therefore to be investigated as a priority and ultimately a profound understanding of all relevant relationships is to be developed via process-induced microstructure development.

Prerequisites:

Prerequisite is an above-average scientific university degree in mechanical engineering, materials science or similar as well as good IT and English skills. Extensive knowledge of additive manufacturing, especially EBM, and of additively processed tool steels is essential. This must primarily include the operation of the EBM system as well as experimental work in the field of additively manufactured hot and high-speed steels. Comprehensive knowledge of powder bed processes and experience in the field of functional materials are also expected. Knowledge of testing and measurement technology, heat treatment strategies and the microstructural and mechanical characterization of metallic materials is required. Experience in the use of servo-hydraulic testing machines and sample production via wire EDM is required.

Advantageous are:

  • Thorough and independent working methods
  • A high degree of organizational skills
