Temporary position for an initial period of 2 years to work on the joint project FOR2432: "Socio-ecological systems in the field of tension of Indian rural-urban gradients: Functions, Scale and Transitional Dynamics" (§ 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG).

 

FOR2432 is a DFG research group with an interdisciplinary orientation that includes various dimensions of social-ecological systems. The research program focuses on urbanization-induced transition processes in agriculture, ecology, economy and society, which are investigated in close cooperation with Indian partners using the example of the emerging megacity Bangalore in South India. In the context of this project, a PostDoc position is available on the topic "Assessment of structural and functional properties of crop production systems with modern terrestrial as well as air- and space-based remote sensing methods". The position is not divisible. Main duty station is Witzenhausen, regular field work in India for several months is required.

 

Your tasks:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Independent cooperation with partners in India
  • Independent data collection on structural and functional characteristics of crop stands
  • Independent application of remote sensing methods
  • Independent data evaluation and interpretation
  • Intensive collaboration with cooperation partners
  • Preparation of scientific publications in international journals
  • Presentation of results at scientific conferences

Your requirements:

  • Above-average academic university degree (MSc or diploma) in the field of agricultural science or remote sensing
  • Proven ability to work independently as a scientist, especially in conducting and evaluating field experiments
  • Experience in handling large data sets - good knowledge of statistical methods of data analysis
  • Experience with sophisticated remote sensing methods in crop science, including LiDAR, hyperspectral cameras, thermal photography, and photogrammetry
  • Extensive use of current modeling techniques, including machine learning and data fusion
  • Proven ability to control complex drone systems
  • Experience in scientific work in tropical/sub-tropical countries, preferably India
  • Open-mindedness and creativity with respect to collaboration on the overall project - Ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness for engagement in teaching at the Department of Ecological Agricultural Sciences.
