Department of Mechanical Engineering - Institute of Materials Engineering - Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Heim - temporary, full-time (currently 40 hours per week)

Application deadline:

19.03.2020

Hiring start date:

as soon as possible

The position is initially limited until 30.09.2021 as part of the SME joint project "Spin-BatL - Impact-resistant polymer compounds based on incompatible blends with exceptional thermal conductivity" (funded by Hessen Agentur GmbH); (§ 2 para. 2 WissZeitVG). The aim of the project is the development of a highly thermally conductive and at the same time impact resistant plastic compound. The possibility to do a PhD is given.

Tasks:

  • As a wiss. You will work on application- and basic research-oriented questions of plastics technology in a young, innovative working environment with above-average laboratory equipment within the framework of the above-mentioned project.
  • The aim of the project is the development of a highly thermally conductive and at the same time impact resistant plastic compound. This should enable the production of LED light housings with special requirements for impact resistance (IK degree of protection) with simultaneous electrical insulation and thermal conductivity, as well as the development of products in other areas of the electronic equipment industry.
  • Extensive testing and measuring equipment is available for determining (thermal) conductivity, as well as for investigating and qualifying mechanical properties. Both dynamic material properties, here in particular the impact strength, as well as the quasi-static ones (tensile and flexural strengths, elongation at break, and many more) on test specimens produced from the developed compounds as well as on components made from them, are to be implemented in accordance with established standards and regulations and, in the case of testing components, in accordance with previously defined application-related test specifications.

Requirements:

  • Scientific university studies completed with at least good results in one of the following fields:
    • Materials engineering
    • Mechanical engineering/ plastics technology.

The required degree must be available by the hiring date at the latest.

  • You are characterized by a very strong interest in scientific issues in plastics technology and bring a high level of motivation and initiative. A convincing and confident appearance as well as a good command of written and spoken English are required.

Advantageous are:

  • Knowledge in the field of processing plastic compounds and material blends and corresponding compounding processes (especially co-rotating twin screw extruders).
  • Knowledge of handling various fillers and reinforcing materials for compounding and extrusion of plastics
  • Knowledge of handling various testing and analysis methods for plastics
  • Thorough and independent working methods
  • A high degree of organizational ability
