Mozart's Magic Flute, undisputedly the most popular work in the opera repertoire, contains an almost incomprehensible diversity: It begins like a magic fairy tale, unfolds an exuberant fantasy between Punch and Judy fun and Freemason ritual, intertwines a teenage romance with the great questions of the Enlightenment - and enchants with music whose rich spectrum of emotions ranges from abysmal lullaby sorrow to bells-and-cheerfulness, from theatrical thunder and fowler charm to the life-saving magic of the Magic Flute.

Mozart's "The Magic Flute" with its stunning variety,  is without any doubt the most popular oeuvre in classical opera repertoire: Starting like a magical fairy tale it flourishes with exuberant phantasy ranging from masonic rituals to humorous puppet theater so as combining teenager romances with burning questions of the Age of Enlightenment. It enchants with overflowing emotions varying from deeply sorrowful heartache until brimming exhilaration and from Bird Catcher's charm until the lifesaving magic of the Magic Flute.
