mapongo: New digital orientation system shows the way to the book

With the start of classes in the winter semester 2021/22, the University of Kassel is launching a digital orientation system for the first time. The first use of mapongo with a 3D visualization of campus buildings and their interiors will start on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 with the campus library at Holländischer Platz.

There, the new system, with its 3D representation of all accessible areas such as shelving areas, learning spaces and service offerings, offers significantly improved conditions for orientation in the building. In addition, mapongo facilitates the search for individual media and, in particular, shows the way to the book. What is found in the catalog portal KARLA and is located in the rooms of the campus library is provided with the link "Show media location on map ", which uses mapongo to mark the shelf area where the medium searched for is located. Long search paths through the rows of shelves of extensive subject groups can thus be avoided.

All university locations are already listed in mapongo. Lecture halls and seminar rooms are recorded with room numbers for the entire university. This makes it easier for new students to find their way around and to quickly locate events at the various university locations.

It is planned that additional buildings with detailed views will be successively incorporated and made accessible. Further functions for the system are also to be developed and released. mapongo , based in Cottbus, is one of the renowned providers in the segment of 3D building information systems and is already represented with its digital products in numerous libraries, including the University of Marburg, the TIB Hannover and the SLUB Dresden.
