FoSS: Strong vocation instead of strong (working) conditions: How Vocation is Used to Keep Broken Systems Running

Sociological papers have shown that flexibility and deregulation on the one hand and security on the other hand alternately gain in importance like a "pendulum"; currently we are in a time of deregulation.
Interestingly, there are professions that, despite increasing demand for skilled workers, have been deteriorating in their conditions for years and now have to "import" foreign workers, for example nurses/caregivers for the elderly. However, instead of society as a whole trying to improve conditions, it turns out that many professions are instead only kept going by people who feel called to that very profession, which paradoxically further worsens conditions.
