Kassel talks: Kick-off for the dialogue on the future

What does our common future look like? How can new visions of the future for the economy, coexistence and technology be experienced through art and supported by science? The University of Kassel, the Staatstheater Kassel and Scientists for Future invite all interested parties to a dialog on these questions. The results will be incorporated into the Science Year 2022 - Inquiry! and will provide impulses for science dialogue formats of the University of Kassel and an artistic project of the Staatstheater Kassel in the documenta summer 2022. To start with, the future of economic activity will be the topic on March 1.

"Disruptions that are changing our economy and society are also becoming visible in Kassel and northern Hesse," explains Daniel Opper, head of the transfer organization UniKasselTransfer. "These include, for example, digitalization or dealing with climate change. These changes can be shaped, and the Science Year 2022 offers us in Kassel the opportunity to have our say. We want to know how the people of Kassel imagine the future, what they want and what they are worried about."

Three dialogs open the stage for a public exchange about the future of business, the future of living together and the future of technology. Participants include scientists and artists - but above all interested citizens. Questions, suggestions and results of the discussions are collected and fed into the political and scientific debate at local and national level. The dialogs are a project of the Year of Science, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The first dialogue will take place next Tuesday, March 1, at 6 p.m. in the opera foyer of the State Theater. Focus is on the future of the economy

Melting polar ice caps, freak weather, heat waves and floods: The consequences of climate change are already clearly noticeable today. But how are companies from the Kassel region affected by this development? What does their and our future look like? What paths can they take - not only to exploit economic opportunities through new products and services, but also to actively shape the future? Why are these questions relevant? And what role do we all have in developing new ways of doing business?

In an interactive format, visitors will engage in conversation with business representatives, scientists, and artists about our shared future of doing business. The program is made up of examples of innovative new business models as well as forward-looking approaches by traditional companies that are advancing sustainable business in the region. Added to this is the artistic perspective provided, among others, by visual artist Anna Rún Tryggvadóttir (Temple project) and other members of the State Theater ensemble. Moderator Bastian Bender will lead through the evening and will welcome guests such as Samuel Waldeck from SHIFT GmbH, Katharina Koch from Landfleischerei Koch and Kerstin Lopau from SoLocal Energy, among others.

Interested parties can register for the event at www.uni-kassel.de/go/anmeldung-dialoge.

At the local level, further events are planned for the Documenta summer, in which, for example, representatives from politics and science will present answers and perspectives. In addition, the State Theater will artistically implement the impulses: The Temple Project is planning a staged performance and a series of interactive public events. On a national level, the Kassel questions will be taken up by Science Year 2022 and brought to the attention of politicians.

Background:

Science Year 2022 - Inquired!
#MyQuestionforScience

The Year of Science 2022 - Inquired! invites all citizens to pose their own personal question for science and thereby provide impetus for potential future fields and future research projects. After all, science and research permeate all areas of our lives. Whether it's the growing importance of algorithms in everyday life or the impact of our lifestyles on the global climate: Society is facing major challenges at the beginning of the 21st century. In order to master these together and actively shape our society, engaging with research findings and contributing our own perspectives are crucial.

The Science Years are an initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) together with Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD). For 22 years, they have supported the exchange between research and society as a central instrument of science communication.
