Scholarship and funding
The Erasmus+ scholarship usually consists of two parts:
- tuition free exchange place at the partner university and
- depending on the availability of funds, a monthly Part scholarship for the mobility abroad.
Funding rates in the 2024/25 academic year (2024 project)
Funding rates in the academic year 2025/26 (project 2025) - publication expected in May 2025
The scholarship is paid in two installments:
70% before the start of the mobility (in the week after 15.07. or 15.12.)
30% after the end of the mobility.
In each case after submission of the required documents.
From the academic year 2025/26 (Project 2025), all students selected for an Erasmus scholarship will receive a grant to cover travel costs depending on the distance to the host university.

*With green travel, you receive daily rates (€18/€20) in addition to the travel allowance, depending on the distance to the destination. The number of days applies per route.
**The distance to the host institution is calculated using the Erasmus+ Distance Calculator. For reasons of equal treatment, the distance from Kassel to the destination is calculated, even if you are traveling from a different location.
What does green travel mean?
Participants who use low-emission means of transport such as train, bus, bicycle or carpooling for the majority of the journey to/from the host institution (more than 50% of the journey) can apply for up to 6 additional travel days, each amounting to one daily rate (€18/€20).
Note: If your trip (whether “green” or not) requires more travel days than those listed above for your distance category, you can contact us. We will be happy to review your individual case and let you know whether additional travel days can be approved. The maximum number for non-green travel is 2 days and for green travel 6 days.
Participants with fewer opportunities can apply for a monthly grant of €250 in addition to the regular Erasmus grant under certain conditions. This is intended to provide special support to students for whom a stay abroad may be more challenging.
Participants with fewer opportunities include:
1. Students with a disability
2. Students with additional needs due to a chronic illness
3. Students with a child
4. First-time academics (students from a non-academic family)
5. Working students
Further information can be found here.
Selected students will receive detailed information by e-mail in good time.
The Erasmus mobility grant can be combined with BAföG abroad. For more detailed information, please contact the relevant BAföG office.
The special funding for participants with fewer opportunities in the case of disability, chronic illness and students with children is not offset against the BAföG abroad. For first-time graduates and employed students, however, it is taken into account (see BMBF decree on the Federal Training Assistance Act and the Erasmus Social Top Ups).
