Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for teaching activities at vocational schools of social work: This includes, for example, training as a social assistant and training as an educator. It is possible to work at state schools as well as at private and denominational schools. On the other hand, the program prepares students for jobs in further education and training in the field of social work, especially in child and youth welfare. The master's degree program also gives students the opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge for working with socially structurally disadvantaged children and adolescents in school contexts, for example, for work as a pedagogical specialist in the vocational preparation year (BVJ) or in the support program "Praxis und Schule" (PuSch) of the state of Hesse. Finally, the successful completion of the master's degree can serve for access to a doctorate and thus an occupation in the scientific field.

 Although this is not a teaching degree program, graduates who successfully complete the "Master of Social Pedagogy in Training, Further Education and Continuing Education" can work in schools. In addition, graduates can apply for a lateral entry into the preparatory service (the so-called Referendariat). As is usually the case in the area of the teaching profession, state-specific regulations must be observed, so that we recommend that you obtain information about admission requirements early on, in case there are already requirements to be observed during your studies. For the state of Hesse, "Social Pedagogy" has been considered a shortage subject for many years, so that an application is possible. The labor market outlook is positive due to

• the increased importance of early childhood education, upbringing and care,
• the qualitatively changed and increased demands on the specialist and thus also the teaching staff in social pedagogical training courses as well as
• the expected need for replacements and expansions at training centers .

The foreseeable expansion of after-school care services is likely to increase the number of training places and thus the demand for teachers in this area. For continuous (further) qualification, it can be expected that the continuing education and training sector will be further expanded in terms of quality and quantity, not only in early education, but also in child and youth welfare.
