Children's university in Korbach

On January 25, 2024, a lecture for children on bridge construction took place in the Korbach town hall, in which Professor Detlef Kuhl from the Department of Construction Mechanics and Structural Dynamics at the University of Kassel provided exciting and interesting facts about the construction of bridges: what types of bridges there are, what they have to carry and how they maintain their stability.

During the lecture, the children were able to playfully practise building bridges themselves using chewy sweets and strips of paper, while also learning lots of facts about spans and tensile and compressive forces.

After several years of interruption, the children's university was able to take place again on the initiative of the MINT Hub. We would like to thank Professor Detlef Kuhl and his team for the great child-friendly presentation of the topic as well as the city of Korbach for the great organization and hope for more successful lectures in the future to get children excited about STEM.
