characterize the degree course. You will learn to critically reflect on ecological, cultural, social, technological and economic transformations and to help shape them in a technically sound manner. The course combines the fundamentals of social sciences, humanities, culture, natural sciences and technology and teaches you methods of transformation and sustainability research.

You will deal with global challenges and develop innovative solutions in project modules. In the project modules, you will acquire both scientific and professional qualifications in working on specific problems of socio-ecological transformation in teams. You will deal with current controversies and problems of socio-ecological transformations, learn about different professional fields of sustainability and be introduced to project management techniques.

As part of your project studies, you will train your communication and methodological skills and prepare yourself for the demands of your future professional practice.

The University of Kassel offers you a unique course of study that combines learning across disciplinary boundaries with a combination of theory and practice from the first semester onwards in an accompanying project course.

In addition to the natural and technical sciences, the humanities, cultural and social sciences are also an integral part of the course, which opens up a wide range of perspectives. A comparably broad perspective on sustainability issues can only be found at the University of Kassel.

In project studies, you will work on sustainability-related issues, develop concrete solutions and gain valuable professional experience through an eight-week internship in Germany or abroad. Career orientation events offer you additional insights into possible career paths.

In the compulsory elective area, you can also set your own focus and design your studies according to your interests. The personal support and learning in small groups create a pleasant and supportive study atmosphere.

In project modules, you will also learn how to independently analyze sustainability-related issues and develop innovative solutions in a team. This allows you to make new contacts and gain practical experience during your studies.

During your studies, you will acquire a sound knowledge of the theoretical, methodological and empirical foundations of sustainability science. The focus is on topics such as energy supply, climate change, land use, nutrition, mobility, sustainability law and social conflicts surrounding sustainability.

The course has a modular structure and combines basic modules, specializations, project work and practical experience. In the compulsory elective area, you can choose from 31 sustainability specializations in all subject areas to tailor your studies to your individual needs. These specializations allow you to focus on specific sustainability topics and deepen your knowledge in a targeted manner.
