The Bachelor's degree program in Sustainability Studies at the University of Kassel offers you the opportunity to gain interdisciplinary knowledge about human-nature relationships, socio-ecological transformations and sustainable solutions. In-depth examination of

The course combines the fundamentals of social sciences, humanities, culture, natural sciences and technology and teaches you methods of transformation and sustainability research.

You will deal with global challenges and develop innovative solutions in project modules. In the project modules, you will acquire both scientific and professional qualifications in working on specific problems of socio-ecological transformation in teams. You will deal with current controversies and problems of socio-ecological transformations, learn about different professional fields of sustainability and be introduced to project management techniques.

As part of your project studies, you will train your communication and methodological skills and prepare yourself for the demands of your future professional practice.

The University of Kassel offers you a unique course of study that combines learning across disciplinary boundaries with a combination of theory and practice from the first semester onwards in an accompanying project course.

A semester abroad offers you the opportunity to broaden your perspectives internationally: whether at a European partner university as part of a funded exchange program or at a non-European university - the degree program is flexibly designed to give you this opportunity.

During your studies, you will acquire a sound knowledge of the theoretical, methodological and empirical foundations of sustainability science. The focus is on topics such as energy supply, climate change, land use, nutrition, mobility, sustainability law and social conflicts surrounding sustainability.

The course has a modular structure and combines basic modules, specializations, project work and practical experience. In the compulsory elective area, you can choose from 31 sustainability specializations in all subject areas to tailor your studies to your individual needs. These specializations allow you to focus on specific sustainability topics and deepen your knowledge in a targeted manner.
