Going abroad during your Ph.D. studies
1.Step 1: Plan your stay
I inform myself about possible types of stay
Research stays
Conference / lecture trips
Teaching stays
Further education and training programmes (e.g. staff weeks, language courses)
I research which co-operations the University of Kassel has with foreign universities
I think about a suitable time for my project abroad
I discuss my project abroad with my supervisor
If you are interested in a binational doctorate (cotutelle procedure), please visit the website of the doctoral office for further information.
2.Step 2: Find a financing option
- I clarify whether funding opportunities are available in my Faculty / subject area
- I research scholarships via the DAAD scholarship database
- I find out about funding opportunities suitable for my type of stay
The deadlines for applying for scholarships usually have a long lead time. To make sure you don't miss out on any funding opportunities, make sure you look for funding options early on.
3.Step 3: Advice
The Department of Internationalization and International Cooperation will be happy to advise you on funding opportunities for your project abroad (eint-funding[at]uni-kassel[dot]de).
When making an inquiry, please provide the most important key data of your project, if available:
- Type of stay/content
- Destination (country + city)
- Planned period
