Quality development in the core study program in education and social sciences (QualitätsKern)

Approximately 5,600 students (as of 2018) are enrolled in teacher training programs at the University of Kassel. In addition to the study of future teaching subjects and their didactics as well as practical school studies, Kassel's teacher:ing program includes the compulsory core study of education and social sciences. Within the framework of the project "Quality development in the core studies in education and social sciences" (03.2018 to 02.2020), which is funded by the University of Kassel in the program line "Promotion of good teaching in large study programs", the core studies subprogram is to be further developed in cooperation with groups of actors within the university.

The three overarching principles of the project are transparency, openness and participation, which run through the entire project and guide the work of the installed steering group. The reform process is scheduled to last two years and is aimed at changes at the levels of curriculum, university didactics and structure. The work on project goals and related topics is carried out in working groups, which are accompanied by members of the steering group.

A starting point is formed by systematic evaluations of qualitative and quantitative research results on teacher training at the University of Kassel as well as in the context of teacher training in general. This will be supplemented by research and analyses of existing initiatives and teaching projects at the University of Kassel.
