Internship

The examination regulations stipulate a 10-week work placement(390 hours). You can complete the internship either in one go or in two parts. Make sure that each part of the internship comprises at least 150 hours, otherwise it cannot be credited. Longer internships can of course be credited without any problems. You can also complete the internship either full-time or part-time.
You cannot complete a compulsory internship during a semester of leave. You can find more detailed information about the internship here

Please note! In order to meet the requirements of the licensing regulations or if you are aiming for a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy with a license to practice, the internship must be divided into an orientation internship of at least 150 hours (first part of the internship) and a professional qualification activity of at least 240 hours (BQT I, second part of the internship). The orientation internship can be completed from the 1st semester, the professional qualification activity only from at least 60 credits. Both can also be completed together in a 390-hour block after completing at least 60 credits. If the internships are completed individually, the orientation internship must be completed first. In addition, BQT I must be completed in a healthcare facility that employs full-time psychotherapists, psychological psychotherapists or child and adolescent psychotherapists . You do not have to be directly supervised by a licensed psychologist, it is sufficient if the person has a degree in psychology. You can find more detailed information here.

When registering for the internship, please indicate whether it is your first partial internship, i.e. the OrPra, or the second, i.e. the BQT I. For the BQT I, please send a current transcript of records showing that you have already completed 60 credits. If you wish to complete both internships in one long internship, the conditions for BQT I apply, i.e. proof of 60 ECTS.

If you would like to complete BQT I outside of our cooperation institutions, an individual internship contract must be concluded in advance between the institution and the university. This requires lead time, so please contact the internship coordinator at least two months before you plan to start your internship. If you are completing BQT I with one of our cooperation partners, please register this shortly before the start so that the 60 ECTS credits are available at the time of registration.

If you are not seeking a license to practice, you can complete the internship in any field of psychology under the supervision of a person with a degree in psychology (Diplom or M.Sc. in Psychology) after you have completed at least 60 ECTS. For the non-clinical internship, please find your own internship that meets the requirements of the examination regulations. The internship should be completed at an institution that employs a full-time person with a degree in psychology (Diplom, B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Psychology) or a person with a comparable degree who is responsible for supervision and internship support. Students generally look for suitable internships themselves. You can find a list of non-clinical internships here. However, you can also look for your own internships in Germany and abroad. The independent search for your internship enables you to carry out the internship according to your interests and should prepare you for your later job search.

For the orientation internship, please also look for an internship on your own that meets the requirements for OrPra. Please clarify this in advance with the institution and the person responsible for the internship module.

For BQT I , we have several cooperation institutions in the region where you can request a BQT I internship. You can find them here (the list is constantly being expanded). It is guaranteed that the above-mentioned general conditions are met. Completing the internship at one of these institutions is the preferred route!

You can also look for an internship for BQT I on your own that meets the BQT-I requirements. In this case, we must conclude a contract for the duration of the internship which states that the requirements of the licensing regulations are met. You should therefore point this out to the institution in advance. If you are unsure whether the requirements will be met, send the BQT-I internship certificate to the institution, where the relevant points are listed and the institution can confirm whether the points are met. The conclusion of the contract requires sufficient lead time, so please contact the internship coordinator at least one to two months before the planned start of the internship to initiate this.

Please note: Research internships are generally not suitable for the orientation internship and the BQT-I (i.e. a degree that conforms to licensing requirements).

You can also complete an internship in an academic context. In this case, it is best to contact the relevant member of staff.
The research internship can be completed during the lecture-free period as well as during the lecture period, as a full-time or part-time internship.
You make all these arrangements directly with the supervisor.
Once you have both come to an agreement, the supervisor must submit an informal application to the examination board in which your tasks are clearly noted. This should give you as comprehensive an insight as possible into the field of research.
It is your responsibility to register with the module supervisor of the internship (Geraldine Jung, praktikum.psychologie[at]uni-kassel[dot]de).

Before starting the internship, the position must be approved by the person responsible for the module. Send the completed application form and, if necessary, further evidence (overview of achievements for BQT I) to praktikum.psychologie[at]uni-kassel[dot]de. You will receive confirmation of successful registration

After completing the internship, please submit the following documents electronically as a pdf to the module supervisor of the internship(praktikum.psychologie[at]uni-kassel[dot]de):

• an internship certificate completed and signed by the institution
  
  and
• an internship report based on the open questions in the document"Internship questionnaire" (length: 6 - 8 pages for the entire internship in continuous text, i.e. if you have divided the internship into two sub-internships 3 pages OrPra and 3 pages BQT I). Please make sure that the questionnaire and the certificate are filled out correctly.

The documents will then normally be processed within 2-3 weeks and entered in your transcript of records

An internship abroad is possible if you are studying in the non-clinical branch and if all requirements are met for the OrPra.
